WSU community comes together through service

A large segment of Shocker students, faculty and staff are already serving the Wichita community, and one Wichita State organization is connecting these individuals to make a larger impact. The Wu Crew is comprised of student, faculty and staff volunteers serving either as a group or individually with organizations such as Habitat for Humanity, the Lord's Diner and Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts. As a Wu Crew member, participants receive a Wu Crew T-shirt and mailings with various volunteer opportunities.

The latest opportunities for Wu Crew members include serving as an individual or in a group. For example, Big Brothers Big Sisters is looking for mentors to be matched with a child. Volunteers can visit their little brother or sister at school over the lunch hour or on evenings and weekends.

Wu Crew members are also needed to form a team and raise funds for the annual Relay for Life from 6 p.m. June 11 to 6 a.m. June 12 hosted by the American Cancer Society. The Relay For Life is held across the globe to celebrate the lives of people who have battled cancer, remember loved ones lost and fight back against the disease. At the relay, teams camp out and take turns walking or running laps. Because cancer never sleeps, relays are held overnight.
