Students, faculty attend regional Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival

Twenty-seven WSU students and seven faculty members attended the regional Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival held at Johnson County Community College in Overland Park, Kan., last week. The festival, with 1,500 participants from a six-state region, includes competitive events for student actors, designers and stage managers as well, as numerous workshops and productions.

Hannah Carter won first place in the Undergraduate Costume Design category, and Jacob January and Ross McCorkell advanced to the semi-final round in the Irene Ryan Competition.

Jacob and his partner, Ashley Lauren, were chosen to compete in the final round, and he won the outstanding Music Theatre Performer Award from the semi-final round.

Participating WSU faculty members included Ed and Danette Baker, Bret Jones, Becky Maholland, Betty Monroe, Linda Starkey and Amy Baker Schwiethale.
