Hugo Wall School selected as Environmental Finance Center

The Environmental Protection Agency has selected the Hugo Wall School to serve as the Environmental Finance Center (EFC) Region 7, which includes Kansas, Missouri, Iowa and Nebraska. The school competed for this designation as part of a national grants award process. Awards are for six years with $190,000 in funds anticipated in fiscal year 2010. The Hugo Wall School represents the only newly created EFC in the nation.

The Environmental Finance Center's mission is to assist state and local governments to create environmentally and financially sustainable solutions to answer the "how to pay questions" associated with EPA mandates.

The EFC will work in a number of regulatory areas including clean air and global climate change; clean and safe water; land preservation and restoration; healthy communities and ecosystems; as well as compliance and environmental stewardship.

The goals set forth by the EPA coincide with current activities and expertise of the Hugo Wall School in water resource policies, capacity building, community engagement and public finance.
