Library Associates to present 'The Life and Times of Margarita Fischer'

The WSU Library Associates will present a talk, "Speaking of a Silent Star: The Life and Times of Margarita Fischer," from 2-4 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 21, in Special Collections, lower level, Ablah Library. Admission is free. Theresa St. Romain will discuss Fischer, who starred as Eliza in the famous 1927 version of "Uncle Tom's Cabin."

St. Romain is the author of a recent biography on Fischer based on her research in Special Collections. She is a WSU graduate and administrator at the University of Kansas School of Medicine-Wichita. Copies of her book will be available for purchase.

Fischer became one of the nation's earliest and most popular screen stars in the early 1900s. She was married to director Harry Pollard, a native Kansan, and her papers and film memorabilia are in Special Collections.
