Women's studies announces 'Honoring Our Heroines' film series

The Center for Women's Studies announces its "Honoring Our Heroines" film series in recognition of Women's History Month. The first film "Lemon Tree" (2008) will be screened for International Women's Day, from 7-9 p.m. today (Monday, March 8) in 100 Lindquist Hall. The film screening is co-sponsored by the South Central Kansas Peace and Social Justice Center and WSU Ablah Library. For more information call 978-7164.

The film is about a Palestinian widow, played by award-winning actress Hiam Abbas, who inherits her family's lemon grove from which she ekes out a living. Her neighbor, the Israeli Defense Minister's security phalanx, decides the lemon grove must come down. The widow and minister's wife form an unspoken and complicated bond. "Lemon Tree" shows the vexed, sometimes humorous, sometimes tragic dynamics of military occupation and inequality.
