Faculty and staff are invited to hear Niall Shanks, Gridley Distinguished Professor of History and Philosophy of Science, present the next Honors Speaker Series lecture, "Immunology as Darwinian Ecology," at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 14, in 224 McKinley Hall. The adaptive immune system in vertebrates provides us with a window through which we can see Darwinian evolutionary principles at work on crucial populations of cells constitutive of the immune system, bringing about adaptive modifications of the body's defense system in the endless battle between "self" and "non-self". This talk will review some of the recent groundbreaking research and introduce ideas from immuno-ecology and immuno-informatics.
