Revised policy addresses smoking on campus

Purpose:
To provide guidance concerning smoking in and around campus buildings and in University vehicles in accordance with state law.

Policy Statement:
It is the policy of Wichita State University to provide a smoke-free workplace for all employees in compliance with the Kansas Clean Indoor Air Act. Smoking is prohibited in all areas of all campus buildings including residence halls; public areas, including the area within a ten-foot radius outside of any doorway, open window or air intake leading into any building or facility; stadia; and Charles Koch Arena. Smoking is also prohibited in University vehicles.

Implementation:
The Director of Facilities Planning is responsible for assuring all areas are in compliance with this policy as it relates to buildings. The Chief of University Police is responsible for assuring compliance with this policy as it relates to University vehicles. The Director of Housing is responsible for assuring compliance with this policy as it relates to residence halls. The Director of Intercollegiate Athletics is responsible for assuring compliance with this policy as it relates to athletic facilities and venues.

The Director of Physical Plant shall assure that ashtrays and/or smoking receptacles will be limited to outside of University buildings.

Complaints about policy violations should be submitted to the complainant's budget or budget review officer for resolution.
