VP Robinson encourages compliance with campus smoke-free policy

Students, Faculty and Staff,

Wichita State University has amended Section 11.08 of the WSU Policies and Procedures Manual relating to smoking on campus as of July 1, 2010.

Policy Statement:
It is the policy of Wichita State University to provide a smoke-free workplace for all employees in compliance with the Kansas Clean Indoor Air Act. Smoking is prohibited in all areas of all campus buildings including residence halls, public areas, including the area within a 10-foot radius outside of any doorway, open window or air intake leading into any building or facility, stadia and Charles Koch Arena. Smoking is also prohibited in university vehicles.

It is important that all members of the campus community know and abide by university policies and procedures. Some people will unintentionally be within 10 feet of a building entrance while smoking and a courteous reminder of the policy should address most situations as we seek compliance with the revised smoking policy. Only in cases where an individual repeatedly acts in a manner that does not comply with the policy should a report be made to university officials as stated in the policy. People can contact my office if they have concerns or need to report problems that they encounter on a regular basis, and I will follow up on those concerns with appropriate individuals on campus.

I want to thank everyone in advance for their efforts to implement this policy

Sincerely,

Wade A. Robinson, Ph.D.
