The first rehearsal for the WSU Steel Band will be from 7-9 p.m. Monday, Sept. 6, in C104 Duerksen Fine Arts Center. If interested in being a member of this premier performing ensemble, contact Daniel Cathey at sigepnancy@cox.net or assistant professor of percussion Gerald Scholl at gerald.scholl@wichita.edu.

WSU Afro Cuban Ensemble also is starting up soon -- no experience necessary, just a passion for drumming. Paul Peterson, WSU alum and master drummer, will direct the ensemble. If you've always wanted to play congas, bongos, timbales and all sorts of percussion, and if you love the music of Santana, Tito Puente and other Latin American music, you'll want to be a member of this group. Rehearsals start this month on Wednesday evenings, times to be determined.
