For the 11th year, the WSU Alumni Association is holding its Shocker Honors Scholar Banquet. The dinner, with featured speaker Kansas Gov. Mark Parkinson, is from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 19, at the Preferred Health Systems Multipurpose Center, Charles Koch Arena. Also speaking will be Rachel Groene, a WSU junior majoring in marketing and human resource management. The purpose of the event is to honor and recognize the academic achievements of local high school juniors who are in the top 10 percent of their class, and to introduce them and their parents to Wichita State. The introduction to WSU has proven to be successful -- about 40 percent of student attendees enroll at WSU.
