RSC Gallery to feature Chiyoko Myose
Chiyoko, born and raised in Japan, moved to America 15 years ago. Her work expresses her longing as "a sojourner" who is searching for the place to call a true home. Her work shows the collision of abstraction and representation, typically of a tree, to express her memories, present experiences and her imagination.
Although Chiyoko's work is highly personalized, it also applies to a more universal theme. She hopes her exhibit will provoke questions to the viewers socially and spiritually. "Where are you from and where are you going? Do you have a genuine place to call a home?" she asks.
Chiyoko earned a bachelor's degree in English literature in Japan and, at Wichita State, is working on a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Studio Arts as a nontraditional student.
Her works have been accepted and exhibited at the state and national level juried competitions. Her works have also been featured in local galleries including Art Works, Shift Space and Bob Schwan Studios. She was recently awarded a Koch Cultural Trust Enabling Grant and completed a residency at the International School of Painting, Drawing and Sculpture in Umbria, Italy.
This RSC Gallery show is her second solo exhibition.
