Learn about 'Green Computing' during open house

Students, staff and faculty are invited to attend an open house on "Green Computing" and learn how to use computers in a more sustainable and energy-efficient manner from 10 a.m.-noon today (Wednesday, Dec. 8) in the Engineering Research Building lobby. The event is sponsored by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers student branch at WSU.

Informative posters on the following five topics will be presented:
1. Why green computing?
2. How can we be sustainable in using portable communication devices like iPads, iPhones, laptops?
3. Is it feasible to charge laptops and phones through solar panels?
4. Cloud computing and thin-client solutions to reduce electronic waste
5. Wireless sensor networks and energy metering in the smart grid
