Installation artist and sculptor Tanya Synar on campus

Tanya Synar, associate professor of visual arts at Texas Women's University in Denton, Texas, will present a lecture at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, March 3, in 210 McKnight Art Center. Synar's sound installation "The Yellowstone Project: Phase I, 2009-11," is on display in the Clayton Staples Gallery in McKnight Art Center through Friday, March 4. Focusing on sculpture, video and sound, her research interests involve exploring perception relative to the landscape and crossing over into the sciences. She has won numerous awards including an Illinois Arts Council Grant and has exhibited nationally and internationally.

Her most recent project, titled "Deception Pass," is based on a marine navigation channel in Washington State and is made possible by the support of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration in their Pacific Hydrographic Branch in Seattle, Wash.
