Nominate students for Ambassador for Multicultural Affairs position

The Office of Multicultural Affairs seeks help from faculty and staff to identify students who would be perfect candidates for the Ambassadors for Multicultural Affairs (AMA) position. Ambassadors for Multicultural Affairs is a year-long volunteer commitment to heighten cultural awareness and increase campuswide participation in cross-cultural and multicultural programs, activities and understanding.

The objective is to foster a dynamic sense of inter- and-intra-cultural engagement and sharing among students, faculty, administrators and staff. AMAs are representatives for the OMA, who assist us in building an all-inclusive campus community that encourages exploration and celebrates diversity.

Ambassador responsibilities include but are not limited to the following items:
-- Participate in OMA activities. Hold regular AMA gatherings and discussions with the Multicultural Advisory Council regarding diversity, equity and inclusion at WSU.
-- Promote OMA events and programs to the student body and Wichita community.
-- Inform the multicultural student organizations about the resources offered by the OMA.
-- Maintain an ongoing contact with leaders of AALANA (African American, Latino, Asian and Native American) Groups.
-- Attend mandatory training sessions, plan and participate in: Passage to Success, Diversity Week, Academic Achievement and Recognition Ceremony, and Multicultural Graduation Celebration.
-- Participate in other multicultural venues organized by other offices such as the Admissions Office "MVPs." (Multicultural Visit Programs)
-- Increase personal knowledge and skills about inter-cultural and intra-cultural history and interaction. Commit to learning about personal racial/cultural history as a way of helping self and others to develop "racial/cultural competency."
-- Serve as a spokesperson for the OMA, and work to advance the OMA vision of an all-inclusive "Multicultural Campus Community."

We ask that you submit the student's name and WSU ID number (if known) to AMA adviser Natalie Toney at natalie.toney@wichita.edu by Friday, April 22.
