'Afghanistan Unveiled' topic of upcoming event

Shaista Wahab, curator of the Arthur Paul Afghanistan Collection at the University of Nebraska at Omaha Library, will present the film "Afghanistan Unveiled: Obstacles & Opportunities for Afghan Women" at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 21, in 209 Hubbard Hall. A reception, with refreshments, will be held on the first floor of Ablah Library following the presentation.

This 2003 film explores the effects of Taliban rule and the U.S. bombing on Afghan women through filmed interviews. The filmmakers were the first ever team of women video journalists trained in Afghanistan. Wahab served as the oral history researcher and trainer for the film.

This event is sponsored by the University Libraries, Lowell D. Holmes Museum of Anthropology, and Department of Anthropology in conjunction with the photograph exhibit "Afghanistan Lost," currently on display in the main corridor of Ablah Library.
