Enjoy fine arts events this week at Wichita State

WSU's College of Fine Arts will feature a number of entertaining programs this week.

Two of WSU's premier jazz ensembles will present an evening of jazz that will be enjoyed by all at 7:30 p.m. today (Monday, Oct. 10) in Wilner Auditorium. The WSU Guitar Ensemble, directed by Craig Owens, will perform along with the 19-piece WSU Jazz Arts Ensemble, directed by Robert Young. The WSU Concert Band, under the direction of Victor Markovich, will feature an Americana-themed concert at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 11, in Wilner Auditorium. You are invited to spend an hour with professor Lynne Davis and the great Marcussen organ in a free concert at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 12, in Wiedemann Recital Hall. Davis is a noted teacher and the only woman and first American to earn the French "Certificat d'Aptitude de Professeur d'Orgue" in 1996. She is a leading international concert organist who performs to enthusiastic critical acclaim.

The WSU Chamber Winds and Symphonic Wind Ensemble, under the direction of Victor Markovich, will premiere a new work composed and conducted by WSU alumnus Jeffery Bishop at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 13, in Wilner Auditorium.
