Campus traffic/parking to be affected by Pumpkin Run Saturday morning

With about 600 runners expected to participate, the Heskett Center's 5K Pumpkin Run at 9 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 22, will affect WSU campus streets, sidewalks and some parking lots. Vehicular access will be restricted for a short period of time Saturday morning in order to minimize safety concerns for the participants and campus drivers. In addition, from 7 a.m.-1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 21, the Office of Admissions has reserved all of Lot 7 (RSC) for Senior Day participants.

Please share the following information with instructors, students and others to help them understand the campus vehicular traffic restrictions that will be in effect Saturday, Oct. 22.

Beginning at 7 a.m., Lot 19 (Eck Stadium), Lot 5 (south of the intramural soccer field and west of Lot 19), and Lot 7 (RSC) will be reserved for the 5K race and a special event at the RSC.

All students and instructors should be able to access the campus and park prior to 8:45 a.m.

Access to vehicular traffic on campus streets will be prohibited between about 8:45 a.m. and 9:45 a.m. Some access may be restricted due to runners, until as late as 10:30 a.m. The expected large number of 5K participants might spill onto campus streets for more than half the race.

The Hillside entrances and 17th Street campus entrances will be the first entrances to reopen, at about 9:45 a.m.

The race begins at 9 a.m. on Perimeter Road north of Morrison Hall and proceeds in a clockwise direction around campus on Perimeter Road. The runners will continue by running toward the west side of Charles Koch Arena to the 21st Street sidewalk and proceed to Mike Oatman Drive. The race continues west (counter clockwise) on Perimeter Road to the south side of Morrison Hall, then east on the sidewalk to the Heskett Center.

This race particularly impacts courses offered at 9 a.m., 9:30 a.m., 10 a.m. and 10:30 a.m., although these classes last longer than the expected traffic closure.
