Magazine photographer makes Wichita visit Nov. 15

What inspires publishers to select a certain visual image for a book cover? How does an artist or photographer identify a motif or scene to express an essay or chapter? Join photographer Kate Joyce for an illustrated talk, "The Expressive Marriage of Word and Image," on her approach to suggestively evoking a text's rich content through photography at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 15, in 210 McKnight Art Center West (WSU School of Art and Design).

Joyce's photographs have appeared in The New Yorker, Paris Review and Architect magazines. She lives and works in Chicago and is collaborating with writer Sam Stephenson as he works on the biography for photographic great and Wichita native W. Eugene Smith.
