'Mesa Verde, The Rio Grande, and Human Diversity'
Following the program there will be a reception and refreshments at the Department of Anthropology on the first floor of Neff Hall. The talk is free and open to the public.
Ortman will talk on the relationship between the Ancestral Puebloan people of the Mesa Verde region and the present-day Pueblos of northern New Mexico. He integrates biological, linguistic, cultural and archaeological evidence to trace the origins of the Tewa language-speaking Pueblo people to determine their relationship with Mesa Verde.
Ortman is an Omidyar Fellow at the Santa Fe Institute and the Lightfoot Fellow at Crow Canyon Archaeological Center. He has a Ph.D. in anthropology from Arizona State University.
