Anthropology professor dies

Robert Lawless, respected faculty member of the WSU Anthropology Department, passed away in the early morning hours, Thursday, Feb. 2. He leaves behind his beloved wife, children and extended family. In his profession, Lawless was an avid writer, publishing a plethora of articles in his time as a social scientist and during his years as a journalist. He was well-traveled, conducting extended fieldwork in the Philippines, New York City, Haiti and Florida. He is known among students for his stories of the Kalingas, an indigenous tribe of the Philippines. He will be missed by his students, colleagues and friends, who are better for the time they spent with him. Those who knew him will remember the knowledge and laughter he gave them over the years.
