'Navigating Financial Change' theme for February finance conference

The Hugo Wall School is hosting the 17th Annual Midwest Public Finance Conference Thursday and Friday, Feb. 16-17, at the Wichita Marriott. The conference is designed for local government finance officers, city clerks, and city and county managers and administrators, and usually draws a crowd of 85-100 from the states of Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska and Oklahoma.

Conference attendees can earn up to 13 hours of continuing education credit. The 2012 conference theme is "From Distress to Success: Navigating Financial Change."

Session topics include financing and energy development, utility pricing and management, activity-based cost accounting systems, collaborative purchasing, internal controls and investing during times of low interest rates. Pre-conference sessions on containing health care costs and basic government accounting are available from 8:30 a.m.-noon Thursday, Feb. 16.
