College of Engineering Scholarship Reception

More than 90 people were welcomed by Zulma Toro-Ramos, dean of the College of Engineering, to the College of Engineering Scholarship Reception Feb. 29 at the Marcus Welcome Center. The event, sponsored by the WSU Foundation, gave donors and recipients of their scholarships an opportunity to get to know one another or catch up on the year's activities. Sheryl and Doug Wohlford, co-owners of Automation-Plus Inc., shared their experiences in engineering and entrepreneurship. The Wohlfords are WSU alumni, and Sheryl Wohlford serves on the boards of the foundation's National Advisory Council and the Shocker Athletic Scholarship Organization.

Members of the Shocker Racing team gave a presentation and showed a video of their manufacture and testing of the team's third Formula-style racecar. The team is made up primarily of engineering students, and the car itself was on display at the entrance to the Marcus Welcome Center. The student speaker was Arnold Durel Deffo Nde, a WSU junior from Cameroon, who is pursuing dual degrees in aerospace engineering and mathematics. Nde plans to graduate in 2013.

Completing the program were comments from WSU President Don Beggs and WSU Foundation President and CEO Elizabeth King.
