Post office announces changes for mailing international packages

The U.S. Postal Service just announced that effective Monday, May 21, all international packages must have online-generated customs forms to be mailed. Go to http://ircalc.usps.com/CustomsFormsCalculator.aspx to find out which customs form you will need to complete for the country you will sending to. After May 21, the WSU Post Office will no longer accept international items being sent from WSU departments with handwritten customs forms.

International shipments being sent from the U.S. are subject to federal export laws and regulations that may require approval for, or otherwise restrict, what can be sent to certain countries, individuals and entities.

While customers are responsible for complying with these laws, the Postal Service is implementing policy changes to help ensure that international mail can be delivered in a safe and timely manner.

The Postal Service also is using this opportunity to introduce changes to international mail processes that makes shipping abroad faster, easier and more reliable. Compliance will be monitored and failure to adhere to the change could result in fines and penalties from other federal agencies, and could cause delays and returns of international mail piece.
