Partial solar eclipse viewing at Lake Afton Sunday, May 20

Lake Afton Public Observatory will be open from 7-8:30 p.m. Sunday, May 20, for a partial solar eclipse viewing. A solar eclipse takes place when the moon passes directly between the Earth and the sun, covering the sun's disc completely. The Wichita area is about 500 miles northwest of the center of the eclipse path so from here the sun's disc will only become about 85 percent covered by the moon just as it sets. There is an admission charge. For more information, call 978-3991. LAPO is sponsored by the Fairmount Center for Science and Mathematics Education.
