Higgs discovery talk open to public

A free public talk, "Black holes, information, and gravity," will be presented by Roland Winston of the Schools of Natural Science and Engineering at the University of California, Merced, at 6 p.m. Thursday, July 26, in the Grand Eagle Ballroom, Hyatt Regency Wichita.

A particle physicist's perspective on gravitation will be presented in light of new recent discoveries. However, this new perspective will bring great insight into both gravitation, quantum information theory and black holes and may be a new turning point of future greater understanding of nature.

Wichita State University's physics department is hosting the 10th International Conference on Hyperons, Charm and Beauty Hadrons (BEACH 2012) -- a particle physics conference now through Saturday, July 23-28, at the Hyatt Regency Wichita.

This is the first international conference in the United States since the announcement of the discovery of the Higgs particle on July 4. The Higgs particle is sometimes also referred to as the God particle.
