Fulbright Scholars program opportunity for faculty and staff

Faculty and staff who are U.S. citizens are invited to explore the opportunities of the Fulbright Scholars program. Deadlines for the June 2013 German Studies seminar are coming soon. Select programs for the 2013-14 academic year have had their deadlines extended to Sept. 17.

The German Studies Seminar will take place from June 10-19, 2013, and will include U.S. scholars from different academic fields, institutional types and regions of the U.S. The seminar is a group program and explores themes of transnational relevance from a German perspective and within the broader context of the European Union.

The 2013 German Studies Seminar topic is "Berlin: Where Cultures Meet and Challenges Abound." Scholars will explore whether economic growth, competitiveness, and new employment opportunities in and around Berlin can be pushed to ensure social integration and personal success without such experience from the past.

How to increase the integrative functions of schools and to strengthen educational attainment?

How can Berlin's plurality, whether in the human or natural sciences, in universities or research institutions, in culture or business, and in the different biographies of East and West Germans become an asset rather than a burden and lead to productive, harmonious cooperation?

While some Germans hope that Berlin stays "sexy," others certainly also expect that innovative and competent governance will help the nation's capital to rise from the poor and to encourage future visitors to "still keep a suitcase in Berlin."

The application deadline is Oct. 15. Contact Tanya Janes for more information at tjanes@iie.org and visit http://www.cies.org/GSS/ .
