Faculty Artist recital to feature Baxter and Grubb

Let your curiosity lead you to indulge in the first Faculty Artist recital of the year at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 18, in Miller Concert Hall. The concert "Indulgences and Curiosities" will feature Deborah Baxter, mezzo soprano, and Thomas Grubb, piano. Tickets are $7 with discounts available through the Fine Arts Box Office at 978-3233 or http://www.wichita.edu/fineartsboxoffice.

Program indulgences include the endearing child-nanny-parent relationships of Mussorsky's Russian song cycle, The Nursery; lush romantic songs of Sibelius in Swedish; and The Deepest Desire, by the brilliant American composer Jake Heggie, based on texts by social activist Sister Helen Prejean, and featuring the incomparable Frances Shelly.

The delightful and quirky curiosities of a group of jazz-inspired French songs rounds out the program.
