* The Olympic oak tree honoring the gold medal win for two former University of Wichita basketball players and a former coach will be dedicated at 10 a.m. today (Friday, Oct. 12) near the Charles Koch Arena ticket office. * WSU will inaugurate President John Bardo at 2 p.m. today (Friday, Oct. 12) at Hughes Metropolitan Complex. Carpooling is encouraged because of limited parking space. The inauguration ceremony will be telecast live on WSU-TV Cox Cable Channel 13, on campus via the CIC Campus Information Channel, and streamed online at http://www.wichita.edu/inauguration.

* WSU students will observe fall break Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 15-16. No classes will be held on those days, although most offices will remain open.

* Because of a time conflict with the Presidential Inauguration, the Pre-Tenure Club meeting today (Friday, Oct. 12) is canceled.

* Each year the Academy for Effective Teaching requests nominations for new members. Recent emeritus faculty retirees are eligible to be nominated by current faculty. The nomination process takes place online; look for an email with a link to a survey. Nominations are open through today (Friday, Oct. 12).

* Student Activities Council needs judges to help prepare for "Shocktoberfest: The Final Countdown!" Faculty and staff judges are needed for window and banner competitions on Monday, Oct. 22 (various locations and times); Can Wars from 1-1:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 26, in the Heskett Center Gym; and Songfest from 5:30-9 p.m. Monday, Oct. 29, in Wilner Auditorium (dinner provided). * SAC is organizing its annual Trunk or Treat event from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 27, in the parking lot by the Heskett Center playfields. Departments have the opportunity to sponsor a trunk and/or activity and help children trick or treat in a safe enviornment.
