Irwin will lead the major gift, planned giving, underwriting, marketing, grants acquisition and membership efforts for KMUW and its subcarrier Wichita Radio Reading Service (WRRS).

“She will direct the ongoing development of the broad base of resources necessary for KMUW to carry out its mission of public service,” said Mark McCain, general manager. “Plus, her background in marketing and design will play an important role in promoting the program services of KMUW and WRRS as we expand our coverage area and activate new digital FM HD Radio channels.”

Prior to joining KMUW, Irwin served as creative director for Cowley County Community College in Arkansas City. While at Cowley, she led the marketing board through a rebranding process and launch as well as design of the athletic logo. She initiated a visiting artist series and developed a successful graphic design curriculum. Irwin also worked at length with the Arkansas City community to revitalize its downtown through public art initiatives that involved a downtown walking tour brochure, visual identity system, and community murals. She owned 3idesign, a graphic design and marketing business for 10 years. Irwin is a graduate of Emporia State University and Wichita State University.

“KMUW began a strategic planning process last fall, and we are glad to have Denise on staff as we move forward,” said McCain. “We envision enhanced and expanded services for our listeners which will require additional financial and human resources, and Denise will play a key role in executing our plan.”
