Performing arts racking up awards at Kennedy Center festival

WSU School of Performing Arts students and faculty have won several Meritorious Awards at the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival in Omaha, Neb. (Jan. 20-26), according to Betty Monroe.

Monroe, a professor in the College of Fine Arts, is on site in Omaha with WSU’s cast and crew from “The Wild Party,” a musical chosen to compete regionally for advancement to the national Kennedy Center festival (http://www.kennedy-center.org/education/actf/).

WSU School of Performing Arts students and faculty won several Meritorious Awards.

They include:

  • David Neville – Lighting Design for “Children of Eden”
  • Betty Monroe – Costume Design for “Intimate Apparel” and “Children of Eden”
  • Megan Richardson – Lighting Design for “Intimate Apparel”
  • Kaye Brownlee – Costume Design for “A Giant Arc in the Skyspace of Directions”
  • Eric Walker – Lighting Design for “A Giant Arc in the Skyspace of Directions”
  • Nick Smith – Sound Design for “A Giant Arc in the Skyspace of Directions”
  • Phillip Taylor – Musical Director for “Children of Eden” and “Wild Party” 
     

In addition, three students advanced to the Irene Ryan Scholarship semifinals: Alex Stoll, Kyle Jo Jennings and Miles Mattal. Mattal has advanced to the finals in the Irene Ryan Scholarship competition (http://www.kcactf.org/).

Whether “The Wild Party” goes on to national competition will be announced at a later date.

Meanwhile, as Monroe says, “WSU students and faculty are doing Wichita State University proud.”
