What made you choose Wichita State University?

I moved to Wichita in 2003 after returning from a year of study abroad in Germany. Wichita State stood out to me given its programs and ways to get involved. I applied the same night I moved to Wichita after completely unpacking. I was motivated, and it was one of my best decisions to date.

What has been your biggest challenge as a student, and how did you overcome it?

My biggest challenge was finding the right mentor to assist me in navigating college and all the things this new environment had to offer. I found people in every department I was connected to and followed their lead. It wasn’t always an easy process, but I was a quick learner and was determined to excel.

What's your favorite off-campus location in Wichita?

One of my favorite off-campus locations is Lake Afton Park. Fishing, swimming, and grilling with family are just a few of the activities for which the lake offered space. It was also a place of escape, where I could go and clear my mind, focusing on self-care given the stressors of college life at times.

If you could choose a song to play when you walk across the stage at graduation, what would it be?

Marvin Sapp – “My Testimony.” The onset of my life wasn’t filled with the fortune I see today. My journey from childhood to present time is a testimony of fortitude and thankfulness for every achievement.

What are your plans after graduation?

I plan to continue to work for the Student Outreach and Support/CARE Team in Student Affairs and continue to offer support to our students in need.

What advice would you give other Wichita State students?

No matter what the journey looks like from the beginning, the ending results in your success and educational achievement. Don’t give up! Use your resources and push through to achieve what you only thought was possible in your dreams.
