Emporia High School
Why did you choose Wichita State University?
I chose WSU because of its Legal Education Accelerated Degree program and partnership with the University of Kansas School of Law.
Additionally, the university is affordable and provides its students with numerous opportunities on campus.
What has been your biggest challenge as a student, and how did you overcome it?
My biggest challenge as a student was time management. With my accelerated degree, my goal was to graduate with my bachelor's in two years. To accomplish this, I had to be on top of all my classes and degree requirements.
In addition, I had to prioritize the other activities I wanted to participate in at WSU during my short time here, such as SGA Supreme Court and the Criminal Justice Student Association.
Did you have any applied learning experience as a student?
I worked as legal intern over the summer for college credit. I shadowed attorneys, attended court and observed trials. I cannot recommend applied learning experiences enough. They are instrumental in gaining understanding and experience in your career field of choice.
What are your plans after graduation?
I am enrolled at the KU of Law for the upcoming fall semester to begin my law degree.
What advice would you give other Wichita State students?
Keep your eyes open and always take the opportunities that arise.
WSU has so many events and extracurricular activities, so take part. You won't regret getting involved on campus and connecting with other students.
If you were given the opportunity to do a TED Talk, what would your topic be?
My topic for a TED Talk would be prison advocacy. In America, prisons are implausibly overcrowded, overrun and ill-equipped. Prison advocacy fights for the rights and humanity of incarcerated people.
