Childhood Development Center

The College of Applied Studies at Wichita State University will host a CTE (Career and Technical Education) Teacher Pathway Campus Visit on Thursday, September 18, from 8:45 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. This event is designed for high school juniors and seniors who are interested in exploring careers in education and getting a first-hand look at life on a college campus.

Throughout the day, students will engage in hands-on activities, learn about the college admissions process, connect with current education majors, and hear from WSU faculty about the impact and opportunities in the teaching profession.

Event Schedule:

  • 8:45 a.m. – Buses drop off students at Wichita State Connect

  • 9:00 a.m. – Welcome from CAS Faculty & Staff (Connect Event Space)

  • 9:15 a.m. – College & Careers & Self-Care / Purpose (students rotate through three sessions):

    • Career Accelerator: Education Careers Jump Start Activity (Connect Event Space 104A/B)

    • Admissions: College Application Process, FAFSA, Scholarships (Connect 106/107)

    • Self-Care Session: Connecting to Your “Why?” – Impact as a Teacher (Connect Classroom)
      (Each session: 25 minutes + 5-minute transitions)

  • 10:45 a.m. – Guided Campus Tour (led by Admissions guides), including:

    • YMCA – Athletics, Physical Activity, Student Life & Organizations

    • Heskett Center – Human Performance Lab, Esports

    • Corbin Education Center

    • Ablah Library

    • Shocker Student Success Center

    • Rhatigan Student Center

    • Shocker Hall (Residence Hall Tour)

    • Koch Arena (tentative)

  • 12:00 p.m. – Lunch in Shocker Hall (provided by the WSU College of Applied Studies)

    • Students will dine with current WSU students majoring in education

  • 1:15 p.m. – Student & Faculty Panel Q&A (Connect Event Space 104A/B)

    • Panelists will include current education majors and WSU faculty (details to come)

  • 2:00 p.m. – Students board buses for departure

This immersive event reflects Wichita State’s commitment to nurturing future educators and providing early access to college and career resources. Students will leave with a stronger sense of purpose, a better understanding of the college experience, and practical steps they can take now to pursue a career in education.
