Sport Management Annual Awards

We are now accepting nominations for the 2017-18 Wichita State University Sport Management Awards. Nominations should be submitted to the WSU Department of Sport Management via email (sport.management@wichita.edu) before the deadline on Monday, April 2, 2018.

Undergraduate Sport Management Major of the Year
The award is open to any undergraduate sport management student who has completed 90 credit hours or more. Candidates may nominate themselves or be nominated by others (students, faculty, constituents). Each letter of nomination should specify the candidate's identity and a rationale for consideration based on the following criteria:

  • Academic performance in the program
  • Relevant professional experience gained while in the program
  • Service to the program (SMSA membership, SMSA officer, assistance with program initiatives)

Graduate Sport Management Major of the Year
The award is open to any graduate sport management student who has completed 24 credit hours or more. Candidates may nominate themselves or be nominated by others (students, faculty, constituents). Each letter of nomination should specify the candidate's identity and a rationale for consideration based on the following criteria:

  • Academic performance in the program
  • Relevant professional experience gained while in the program
  • Service to the program (SMSA membership, SMSA officer, assistance with program initiatives)

Sport Management Alumni of the Year
The award is open to any former student from the sport administration/management program. Candidates may nominate themselves or be nominated by others (students, faculty, constituents). Each letter of nomination should specify the candidate's identity and a rationale for consideration based on the following criteria:

  • Professional advancement
  • Recognition of professional achievement
  • Service to the sport management program (Sport Management Alumni Association, financial support, mentoring)

Sport Management Practitioner of the Year
The award is open to any sport management practitioner. Candidates may nominate themselves or be nominated by others (students, faculty, constituents). Each letter of nomination should specify the candidate's identity and a rationale for consideration based on the following criteria:

  • Professional advancement
  • Recognition of professional achievement
  • Service to the program (internship supervisor, Advisory Council, lecturer)


The sport management faculty will review nominations for each award based on the stated criteria. The winners will be recognized at the annual Sport Management Recognition Night.
