Educators, families, researchers, policymakers and advocates from across Kansas gathered for the “Elevating Literacy: Connecting Communities for Lasting Impact” conference on March 30 at Wichita State University’s Rhatigan Student Center.

The Reading League of Kansas hosted the event in partnership with Wichita State University’s College of Education. The conference focused on strengthening literacy outcomes for students across the state.

More than 260 registrants attended the annual conference. The event continues to serve as a space for those committed to ensuring every child in Kansas learns to read. Attendees share a common responsibility to advance literacy through collaboration, evidence-based practices and collective leadership.

Sessions throughout the day highlighted research-aligned practices and practical strategies for the classroom. Presenters and participants also explored collaborative approaches that support access to high-quality literacy instruction. The conference emphasized both effective practices and the systems needed to sustain them.

The event reinforces the importance of shared leadership in literacy work. Participants built knowledge, strengthened relationships and aligned efforts across disciplines. This collective approach supports the conditions needed for literacy to improve statewide.

The conference is held annually. Details for next year’s event will be shared at a later date.
