What is your current position and give a brief overview?
Small business owner of Shoeline Entertainment. Shoeline Entertainment is a ticket
brokerage company. The company buys and resells sports and entertainment tickets.
Was this career path on your radar since you graduated? If not, speak on how you came
across this position.
This specific career path was not on my radar. I always wanted to work in professional
sports, but never really knew about the secondary market of the sports and entertainment
world. Through connections, I was introduced to a business called Viwa in 2016. They

SMART Lab Speaker Series
with Jocelyn Monroe, VP/Marketing
for KC Current.
WSU Smart Lab Speaker Series welcomes Jocelyn Monroe of the KC Current
On September 29th, the Smart Lab Speaker Series welcomed Jocelyn Monroe, Vice President
of Marketing at KC Current, who shared thoughtful insights on marketing and branding, as well as powerful advice
for students' career preparation. Monroe is making significant contributions to the
KC Current professional women’s soccer team and breaking barriers in all of women’s
sports. She is currently serving as VP of marketing for KC Current, covering retail,
brand, content, creative, and field marketing.
Since taking on her new role, KC Current has opened CPKC Stadium, the first women’s
professional sports stadium in the world. As part of the stadium, Monroe coordinated
the opening of the first brick-and-mortar store in the National Women’s Soccer League
(NWSL). The goal behind the branding initiatives is to create a holistic experience
for fans while also initiating community efforts by providing new job opportunities
and experiences for Kansas City residents.
Students were also provided the opportunity to meet with Martha De Leon, Manager of
Experiential Field Marketing at KC Current, as well as other KC Current staff members.

Launch of the Journal of Contemporary Issues in Sport

The Department of Sport and Leadership Studies is delighted to announce the launch
of the Journal of Contemporary Issues in Sport (JCIS), a scholarly peer-reviewed journal
established by Dr. Wonyoung Kim. It is published by the Department of Sport and Leadership
Studies in collaboration with Dr. Susan Matveyeva and University Libraries.
JCIS is committed to exploring and disseminating research, critical analysis and thought-provoking
discussions on contemporary issues within the field of sport management and related
topics. It serves as a valuable resource for scholars, researchers, educators, students,
sport industry professionals, policymakers and anyone interested in understanding
the dynamic and ever-evolving landscape of the sport industry.
The inaugural issue of JCIS is now accessible online. The Department of Sport and Leadership Studies warmly invites scholars, practitioners
and students to explore the journal and consider contributing to its future volumes.
Dr. Clay Stoldt Inducted into the WSU Scholars Walk
Congratulations to Dr. Clay Stoldt for being inducted into the Wichita State University
Scholars Walk, which recognizes some of the exceptional research and classroom accomplishments
of our award-winning faculty.
Dr. Stoldt serves as a professor of sport management and the faculty athletics representative
(FAR) at Wichita State University. He joined WSU in 1998 and currently teaches and
conducts research in sport public relations and college athletics. Dr. Stoldt also
has nearly 20 years of experience in academic leadership, serving as interim dean,
associate dean, and department chair. He was an inaugural inductee into the Commission
on Sport Management Accreditation Hall of Fame and has also received a distinguished
service award from the North American Society for Sport Management.
Congratulations to Lane Pywell on new position with Capitol Technology University
Lane Pywell, a proud Wichita State University Sport Management alumnus, has joined
Capitol Technology University in Laurel, MD, as the Assistant Director of Esports
and Competitive Activities! Lane is also pursuing his master’s degree in Sport Management
at Wichita State, expected to graduate in Spring 2026. We’re proud of his continued
success and impact in the rapidly growing world of esports management!
