The Biomedical Engineering (BME) program at Wichita State University is dedicated to preparing the next generation of engineers who will transform healthcare through innovation, research and collaboration. Our mission is to provide students with a strong foundation in engineering, life sciences and problem-solving skills to address today’s most pressing medical challenges.

The Bachelor of Science program in Biomedical Engineering at Wichita State University is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET, https://www.abet.org, under the commission's General Criteria and Program Criteria for Bioengineering and Biomedical and Similarly Named Engineering Programs. The undergraduate curriculum pairs a rigorous engineering core with sustained laboratory and design experience, and offers concentrations in biomaterials and tissue engineering, biomechanics and mechanobiology, and instrumentation, sensors and imaging. Guided by clearly defined program educational objectives, our graduates enter careers in industry, healthcare and government or continue to advanced study.
 
Wichita State extends that foundation through Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy programs in Biomedical Engineering, launched in 2017 and 2020, in which students conduct research that advances human health and medical technology. Wichita State is the only university in Kansas offering the complete bachelor's, master's and doctoral sequence in Biomedical Engineering, allowing students to progress from first year coursework to independent research at a single institution.
