The Biomedical Engineering (BME) program at Wichita State University is dedicated to preparing the next generation of engineers who will transform healthcare through innovation, research and collaboration. Our mission is to provide students with a strong foundation in engineering, life sciences and problem-solving skills to address today’s most pressing medical challenges.

Accredited by ABET since 2014, our undergraduate program emphasizes hands-on learning and real-world applications, with concentrations in biomaterials and tissue engineering, biomechanics and mechanobiology, and instrumentation, sensors and imaging. Guided by clear educational objectives, our graduates are well prepared to pursue impactful careers in industry, healthcare and government, or to continue advanced studies.

Building on this strong foundation, WSU also offers master’s (launched in January 2017) and doctoral programs (launched in January 2020) in Biomedical Engineering, where students engage in cutting-edge research that advances both human health and technology. WSU is the only university in Kansas to offer the complete pathway of bachelor's, master's and doctoral programs in Biomedical Engineering, providing students with unique opportunities to excel at every stage of their academic and professional journey.
