Community Sustainability Tool Online!

Communities throughout the country are being faced with increasingly difficult decisions about updating and replacing drinking water infrastructure in order to continously provide their customers with safe clean drinking water.

These investments can be particularly difficult for small communities to determine how, when and if the community can pay critical pieces of infrastructure over time. The WSU EFC has developed the Community Sustainability Tool over the course of the last several years and we are happy to announce that is now available online for communites that are in Kansas, Iowa, Nebraska and Missouri!

This financial planing tool uses a combination of inputs and program-generated data to help broadly forecast future water and wastewater costs in relation to median household income. The tool uses a series of indicators to display the proablity that a community may not be able to sustainabily finance an investment over time.
