Scholarship Opportunities

Full or part time undergraduate students working on a major, minor, or BGS in Women’s Studies, as well as graduate students with a Women’s Studies concentration in the Master of Arts in Liberal Studies (MALS) program, a background in Global Learning, or an interest in the Plaza of Heroines are eligible to apply for scholarships sponsored by the Women’s Studies Department.

An online application form for the academic year can be found at www.wichita.edu/las/scholarships. All scholarship applications come from the LAS Dean’s office to the Department for Women’s Studies, so be sure to note LAS Deadlines. Priority deadlines for incoming freshmen and current students are November 1st and February 1st respectively. Recipients of any awards will be notified early in the spring semester. Additional information on each award available can be found below.


Forum for Executive Women (FEW)

• Preference will be given to female student(s)
• Consideration will be given to a student(s) of junior or senior standing with a GPA of 3.5 and
majoring or minoring in Women’s Studies, who presents emerging leadership qualities
• Awards will be made without regard to financial need
• The scholarship(s) will not be renewed automatically

Kathleen & John Van Saun Scholarship

• Preference will be given to majors in Women’s Studies
• Preference will be given to students who are non-traditional aged single mothers who are head
of household.
• Award(s) will be made with regard to financial need
• The scholarship(s) may be renewed based upon satisfactory academic progress

Plaza of Heroines Endowed Fund

Undergraduates:
• The scholarship(s) will be awarded annually and/or on a semester basis
• Student(s) receiving the award may be required to participate in research or classroom
activities with Women’s Studies faculty as a condition of receipt
• Scholarship criteria will be based on demonstrated academic excellence and demonstrated
interest in Women’s Studies as a scholarly pursuit
• Award(s) will be made without regard to financial need
• Award duration and amounts will be determined collectively by the Center for Women’s
Studies faculty

Graduates:
• The fellowship(s) will be awarded annually and/or on a semester basis
• Awards may include assistantships as well as merit awards with no assistantship attached
• Fellowship criteria will be based on demonstrated academic excellence and demonstrated
interest in Women’s Studies as a scholarly pursuit
• Award(s) will be made without regard to financial need.
• The fellowship(s) will not be automatically renewed
• Award duration and amounts will be determined collectively by the Center for Women’s
Studies faculty
