It is my joy to welcome you to the School of Social Work at Wichita State University. For over 50 years, we have been preparing social workers who bring compassion, skill, and commitment to communities across Kansas and beyond. We are proud of our history, but we are equally excited about the future we are building together.

Guided by Wichita State’s mission to take responsibility for the social, cultural, and overall health of the communities we serve, we prepare students to engage meaningfully with diverse populations and complex social issues. We believe in social work’s power to create change — grounded in evidence-based practice, informed by lived experience, and fueled by a deep respect for human dignity.

As part of the Fairmount College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences, we collaborate across disciplines to design solutions, strengthen communities, and provide students with applied learning experiences that connect the classroom to real-world impact. Our Generalist and Advanced Generalist Practice Model equips graduates to work effectively with individuals, families, groups, organizations, and communities — from urban neighborhoods to rural towns.

At the heart of our School is a commitment to social justice, ethical practice, and honoring the unique cultural, political, and social diversity of the Midwest. Whether you are a future student, a community partner, or an alum wanting to give back, you are an important part of our story.

I invite you to explore our website, learn more about our programs, and connect with us as we continue this important work together. The door to our School — and our community — is always open.

Warmly,
