My name is Tiahna Padilla, and I was a dual-degree student pursuing a B.S. in Computer Engineering and a B.A.A. in Media Arts (Animation), with minors in Mathematics and Computer Science. Since middle school, I’ve aspired to be a storyteller who inspires others, and I've always been captivated by Disney's magic. With this dream in mind, I initially noticed that WSU didn't offer an animation degree, but I discovered that many Disney employees came from engineering backgrounds. Thus, I decided to study Computer Engineering to get my foot in the door. When WSU eventually launched the Media Arts program, I immediately added Animation as my second major to bridge the gap between technical skill and creative art.
I’m especially excited to dive back into my hobbies without the weight of school assignments. Balancing two degrees has left me with little time for my sketchbook, so I can’t wait to start drawing again just for fun. I’m thrilled to be heading back to Disney! I have accepted a summer internship with Industrial Light & Magic (ILM) in San Francisco, focusing on Information Technology. Following that, I’ll be participating in the Disney College Program this fall, hoping to secure a full-time position within the company.
I love exploring new places and can’t wait to dive into the local food scene and try all the cuisines that I can't find back in Wichita! ILM is renowned as the gold standard for visual effects (VFX), and since I’m passionate about VFX and technical animation, I wanted to contribute to the company that makes incredible films possible. My role in IT will allow me to support the technology that artists use every day.
As for advice, I strongly encourage you to utilize every opportunity that comes your way. The instructors at Shocker Studios possess incredible industry experience and wisdom. If you have a specific interest, there’s likely someone at the Studios who can help you grow. Don’t be afraid to ask questions and take advantage of the resources around you.
