Acting

Creativity & Performance - Performers may find that their tricks work so well that they repeat similar patterns in every performance of every role. I mean, Why Not?! It Works, right? And People clap. And my Mom says I'm really Great!

On the other side of that instance are Performers who are not able to fully express their intentions due to tension in the body.

What if we could move beyond habits, patterns, and tension to express the character that we are asked to play?

This Workshop explores artistic expression through relaxation and impulse flow for the performer. It's most applicable to acting but the techniques and practices are useful for creatives and artists of all types.

Where's My Connection? - Artists and Creative Workers are often asked to work with others or in diverse groups of people. The ability to see and hear others in a community typically occurs naturally among infants and young children. However, as time goes by those abilities to share may become ossified or atrophic from lack of use.

The good news is that we can practice training and workouts to rebuild the strength of those skills. We explore being present and limiting distraction, active and empathetic listening, clear and honest verbal communication and non-verbal cues.

This Workshop explores relaxation and impulse flow for the performer. It's applicable to all members of any production from performance to design and management in the theatre.

Improvisation - In this workshop, students learn the basics of improvisational theater through games, exercises, and scene work. No experience is necessary—just a willingness to say “yes, and” and take creative risks. Students build confidence, sharpen their listening and collaboration skills, and discover the joy of thinking on their feet.

Script to Screen - This workshop guides students through the fundamentals of acting on camera. Participants will learn how to break down a short scene, make strong character choices, and adjust their performance for the camera. Through recorded scene work, students gain practical experience with camera framing, eye lines, and naturalistic acting techniques.

Fun with Masks! Intro to Commedia Dell'Arte - Movement, slapstick, improv — enjoy the zany characters of the Commedia Dell'Arte and work with masks, physicality, voice, and expressive movements!

They Fight! Intro to Unarmed Combat - Experience an introductory workshop into the world of stage violence. Learn the importance of safety, the value of control, and the interpersonal communication necessary to tell violent stories on stage and in film.

Intro to Voice & Kinesensics - The Lessac Method to Vocal Pedagogy - Experience a new perspective to your own voice with guided facilitation. The voice is a malleable, dexterous, and wonderous instrument, and this workshop can help you discover new facets of your voice and improve diction, projection, and breathing.

Ready to unlock your full potential as an actor? This workshop gives you the tools to break through stage fright, overcome old habits, and build confidence for authentic performance. Through movement, improvisation, and ensemble exercises, you’ll strengthen your physical presence, emotional awareness, and connection to your scene partners.

Grounded in mindfulness and trauma-informed practice, the training creates a safe, adaptable space where all bodies and experiences are respected. You’ll leave with practical skills, deeper self-awareness, and a fresh approach to bringing truth to the stage.

The workshop will culminate in a practice session of either all skills learned where students can create their own order and experience the journey, or a set partnering phrase for the students to learn and work through in duets. Design & Technical Theatre

Creating Dramatic Lighting - No matter what equipment or technology you have access to everyone can create dramatic lighting for their productions. In this Lecture/workshop we will explore the world of Lighting for stage, screen and fashion.   A participant in this workshop will learn the keys to “dramatic” lighting.  Topics discussed will include but not be limited to.  Dramatic Angles of light, Color and light, and setting a mood through the use of light.  I look forward to seeing you at my next workshop.

The Costumers best “frenemy”: How the color of light effects fabrics for good and ill.

In this workshop participants will learn about the science of color mixing, how humans understand and see the colors around them and how the light that “hits”  fabric can fundamentally changes how our mind perceives the color of the pigments in said fabric.   Additionally, during the workshop participants will be able to experiment with lighting colors on the fabrics around them. I look forward to seeing you at my next workshop.

CRAFTing the Character - The instructor will provide basic household craft items (like coffee filters, newspaper, crepe paper, paper plates) and students will use them to create costumes that easily explain character. This explores stereotypes and social expectations around dress.

Problem Solving Game - This is a workshop to focus on building problem-solving skill, adaptability and teamwork. Duration would be around 45-60 minutes and can be a fun activity! The class of students is divided into small teams that function as “tech crews.” Each team will receive a “crisis” (ex: The actor mic dies mid -scene, the prop table gets moved, and the cue sheet is missing page 3, etc. Teams have 5 minutes to present their solution to the problem (strict time limit so they work under pressure). Students need to consider: Immediate steps, contingency plans, and how to communicate to cast/crew. There will be a few rounds and it could be made into an interactive board game!

Run Crew Relay - Focuses on Teamwork and tech skills – should only take about 45 minutes. Students are put into relay teams, numbers vary based on class size. Stations will be set up for mimicking backstage jobs – spike marking, cable coiling, hang a light, costume quick change. Teams race to complete each task correctly and safely – there is also a timed component.

Spike Marking: Teams have to spike mark two corners and an X

Cable Coiling: Coiling either 50’ or 100’

Unhang  a Light: Unplug power and wrap around, push shutters in, remove safety, unclamp from pipe and place down.

Costume Quick Change: a “quick change” would be removing a costume piece or adding a piece in a set amount of time.

Stage Manager’s Brain – Trial by Chaos - This is a workshop for Stage Managers. Should take 45 min to 1 hour, can be longer if needed. Students will be split into groups and given a physical “chaos packet.” In the packet there is incomplete reports with typos and missing information, half-finished cue sheets, prop lists with duplicates and errors, schedule with errors, overlaps, conflicts – handwritten sticky notes with correct information. Also provided are highlighters, pens, colored tabs, a binder with blank tabs. The groups need to sort, clean and label everything – they’ll have to revise and point out errors.
