Sam Bloomfield Chair and Professor in Engineering

Dr. Shuang Gu, Sam Bloomfield Chair and Professor in Engineering, is a distinguished professor of mechanical engineering. Previously, he has served as an associate professor (2020−2025) and an assistant professor (2015−2020). Gu earned both a Ph.D. (2008) and a B.E. (2000) in chemical engineering from Dalian University of Technology in China. Gu's research focuses on environmental sustainability and energy research, for which he has been awarded nine competitive federal grants from the National Science Foundation, the Department of Energy, and the Advanced Research Projects Agency-Energy, totaling $5 million. Gu has published over 70 peer-reviewed journal articles, which have garnered more than 10,000 citations.
