Ever since middle school, I dreamed of studying abroad. So when it came time to choose a college, I
made sure to find a school with strong opportunities to study internationally.

Wichita State University checked that box. WSU has an amazing study abroad program, offering experiences not only across the globe, but also within the United States. One of the biggest perks: students pay their tuition and fees at Wichita State rates, making it financially accessible.

This past summer, I had the privilege of joining the Barton School of Business on a study abroad trip to Pau, France. Along with about 14 other business students and two incredible faculty members, Dorothy Harpool and Seth Crockwell, I spent several weeks immersed in French culture while completing coursework. Our schedule was just what we needed - classes ran Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., which meant long weekends to explore. The courses counted toward our entrepreneurial experience and international business requirements - two classes every business major needs. It was incredible how I got to take required classes while being abroad.

Financially, I was extremely grateful to receive the Bassi Family Scholarship, a $5,000 award specifically for business students studying abroad. That support made this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity possible for me.

Before the program officially began, a few friends and I spent three days in Paris. We explored the Eiffel Tower, cruised along the Seine River, visited the Louvre, got to see Notre Dame, and wandered the streets of the city. During the program, one of the highlights was a group trip to Biarritz, a stunning coastal town located on the border between France and Spain. We toured the city, learned about its history, and then my friends and I decided to stay the weekend. Those few days were unforgettable—swimming in the Atlantic Ocean, exploring the farmers' market, attending a music festival, and indulging in some of the best food I’ve ever had.

The program brought together students who started as classmates but quickly became friends. Living, learning, and exploring a new country together gave us a unique bond that’s hard to put into words. From late-night conversations to spontaneous adventures, we shared experiences that no one else will ever quite understand.

If you’ve ever thought about studying abroad, my advice is simple: go for it. It’s not just about where you’ll go - it’s about who you’ll become along the way.
