Pizza Shuttle is locally-owned and operated with five locations spread across Kansas and Missouri – the first opening in 1984. Its other locations are in Lawrence, Manhattan, Kansas City and Topeka.
Photo by Clinton Dick/Undergraduate AdmissionsI made the short walk over for lunch, not long after it opened, to enjoy my first Pizza Shuttle experience. The restaurant does offer carry-out and delivery, the latter being a prominent part of its brand, but it also has space for dine-in.
The menu features 16 specialty pizzas in either 10” or 14” size, along with customizable orders that include 10 different base options and 20 different topping options to choose from. My colleague and I got the “Two-fer,” which is two 10” pizzas, two toppings for each and two soft drinks at $18. This ended up being a reasonable deal both for the price and the amount of food for two people.
Photo by Clinton Dick/Undergraduate AdmissionsI ordered a pepperoni and jalapeno pie because I love food with a little kick. My colleague ordered ham and pineapple. Both were delivered to our table in roughly 10-15 minutes.
We both thoroughly enjoyed our lunch. If I had to compare Pizza Shuttle to another brand, I would say it reminds me a little of Pizza Hut’s pan crust (which is a favorite of mine). It is a slightly thicker, puffier pie. Their traditional pizza sauce base is sweet, but not overwhelmingly so. The cheese is delicious with just the right amount on top, and my order was cooked perfectly with a good outside crisp on the crust.

Overall, Pizza Shuttle is a welcome addition to Wichita State’s campus cuisine scene. It joins the ranks of Shocker Grill & Lanes, Social Tap and the Shocker Dining Hall as spots where pizza lovers can rejoice – each with their own flavor and charm.
