Photo by Matt Crow/Undergraduate AdmissionsA day in my life as a transfer student starts with commuting to campus. One piece of advice I would share as a transfer student coming from a smaller campus is to arrive early. Parking can be difficult, but ensuring you're early helps prevent stress and gets you a better spot.
This semester, my day starts at 8 a.m. with ecology lab. Our lab was out in the field at Chisholm Creek, where we caught grasshoppers and estimated population size using mark-recapture techniques. Afterwards, genetics lab starts at 10 a.m. where we have been working on DNA mapping and analysis.

One of my favorite study spots is Ablah Library. I love booking private study rooms to go over class materials. The library has many resources and quiet spots when you need to focus.
Managing a busy schedule can be difficult at times. One tip I offer for incoming transfer students is to review what your week looks like the Sunday prior. I like to keep track of all assignments, classes, exams and extracurricular activities in my calendar. Reviewing your week ahead of time keeps you from getting thrown off, makes surviving a busy class schedule less intense, and lets you physically see when you have free time for breaks and activities.
One thing I'm looking forward to this year is reconnecting with friends from prior classes. Outside of class, I've joined the Pre-Dental Student Association and became a transfer guide. Joining clubs and getting involved on campus is a great way to meet new people!
If someone is considering transferring, I would tell them to first check if courses transfer using the Transfer Gateway and connect with an admissions rep if any questions come up. The process can feel heavy, but there are plenty of staff who are ready to help. I'd also tell them how fast campus starts feeling like home once you settle into the atmosphere.
