Bisexual & Proud - Bisexual Visibility Day

Bisexual Visibility Day is observed annually on September 23 to celebrate and recognize bisexual history, community, culture, and lives of people.

Why is Bisexual Visibility Day celebrated?
Bisexuality Visibility Day (also known in various names, such as Bi Visibility Day, Celebrate Bisexuality Day, Bisexual Pride Day, etc.) was first officially observed in 1999 as International Celebrate Bisexuality Day, created by three bisexual activists: Wendy Curry of Maine, Michael Page of Florida, and Gigi Raven Wilbur of Texas. That year, it was honored and celebrated in the United States of America, United Kingdom, and South Africa. Now, it is celebrated in more than 30 countries.

This celebration of bisexuality in particular, as opposed to general LGBTQ+ events, was conceived as a response to the prejudice and marginalization of bisexual people. Although September 23 is the day used to celebrate this occasion, bisexual individuals and all people of various identities and representation are visible and recognized every single day at Wichita State University as we look forward to a brighter and more inclusive future.
