Somos Shockers 

Somos Shockers, which translates to "We are Shockers" is branding to represent WSU and HSI efforts. Some of these efforts include supporting community engagement, sharing resources and connections to the school district to promote access to higher education.

Herencia Logo
Herencia Summer Bridge Program helps high school seniors build confidence and prepare for college life. In July 2025, the inaugural weeklong summer bridge titled Herencia took place on-campus at Wichita State University. The program, open to all students but geared towards Spanish-speaking high school students. This experience was intentional in preparing high school senior students for college through an abundance of cultural immersion, language enhancement, college credit opportunities, and pathways to success for college
Somos Shockers LLC Logo

The Somos Shockers Living Learning Community is a partnership with Residence Life to provide a space for students interested in surrounding themselves with culture and language of the diaspora. Students in the LLC will connect with student organizations, falculty and staff supporting the Somos Shockers community. A variety of interactive cultural programs and activities are set to take place throughout the year.

HALA Scholarship 2026

The HALA Scholarship for Community Service assists students in completing their program of study at WSU. The scholarship was established in 1991 and provides scholarships to outstanding Wichita State students.

The purpose of the scholarship is to provide financial assistance to students while promoting the value of community service to foster a sense of civic duty and commitment to the university and greater Wichita area. The key objectives of the scholarship are to aid in the retention and graduation of WSU students.

To achieve these objectives, the scholarship includes awards based on financial need, academic achievement, and service activities. Awarded students must agree to engage in community services activities for WSU and/or community-based organizations. The deadline to apply is March 20th, 2026.
