Elias Brownlee, a December 2024 graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering, started his Ennovar journey as a Software Developer intern at Textron. Today, he works as a Data/ITS Engineer at GFT, contracted through the Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT). In his current role, Elias helps support the state’s Intelligent Transportation Systems. His work involves automating day-to-day operations that keep Kansas highways safe and efficient. “On any given day, I may be troubleshooting a downed traffic management site, setting up a new location, monitoring highway conditions across the state, or posting signage to help prevent crashes,” Elias explained. He also supports and leads a team responsible for ensuring smooth operations, contributing to safer travel for drivers across Kansas.
Reflecting on his time at Ennovar, Elias said, “Ennovar played a huge role in getting me where I am today. They gave me my first opportunity in the field and truly got my foot in the door — something I couldn’t have done on my own.” He credits the program not only for helping him build confidence but also for creating valuable industry connections. “Personally, it gave me the confidence to take on real projects and see the impact of my work.

Career-wise, it connected me directly with industry partners and set me on the path I’m on now with KDOT. I’ll always be grateful for the mentorship, the experience, and the doors Ennovar opened for me.”

One of his favorite parts about Ennovar was the wide range of opportunities it provided. “Through them, I was able to land an internship with Textron — something that gave me real-world industry experience and helped shape the path I’m on today. Beyond that, I appreciated the mentorship and support I received along the way.”
Outside of work, Elias enjoys running, lifting, collecting sports cards, and solving puzzles like escape rooms. To current Ennovar students, he shares this advice: “Treat every project like it’s a chance to prove yourself. The work you’re doing at Ennovar isn’t just busywork; it’s real experience that can open doors for you, just like it did for me. Ask questions, lean on the mentors around you, and don’t be afraid to take on something that feels a little outside your comfort zone.”
