Overview

Rachel Showstack is an Associate Professor of Spanish and Linguistics. She received a PhD in Hispanic Linguistics from the University of Texas at Austin and an MA in Spanish from Sacramento State. Her areas of interest in research and teaching include Spanish as a heritage language, language ideologies, language and healthcare, and community-based language education.

 Dr. Showstack’s work has appeared in Spanish in Context, Language and Intercultural Communication, the Journal of Spanish Language Teaching, the Journal of Language, Identity, and Education, and several edited volumes. Her first book project, Language Ideologies and Linguistic Identity in Heritage Language Learning, is under contract with Routledge, and she is currently conducting research on access to quality healthcare for minority language speakers in the United States.
